Even if this Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary replica watch, which is designed around the movement (and not the other way round, as is the case for most of today’s watchmakers), only acquired the name Altiplano in 1998, the legend created by Piaget first saw the light of day in 1957.
Although their white gold cases do not have the same diameter or contain identical workings at their heart, the two best fake Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Collection watches have a good deal in common. First of all, they are adorned with a bright blue dial, half way between navy and electric blue, together with a fine azure cross with arms reaching from 9 to 3 o’clock and from 12 to 6 o’clock. The hour rim is made up of slender white gold markings. A couple of stick-shaped, silver-coloured hands display the hours and the minutes. Out of respect to the aesthetics of the earliest Altiplano models, which inspired these two watches, Piaget has set its traditional logo on the dial at 12 o’clock. Today, 60 years after the birth of the 9P, the brand is celebrating this important anniversary by releasing two fine and classy pieces that are as comfortable to wear, as classical and as elegant as only Piaget copy watches can be.
Because it was in 1957 that Valentin Piaget – the grandson of the man who founded the watch-movement workshop in 1874 in Côte-aux-Fées (a town in Val-de-Travers, on the heights of the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel), and where watches were made from 1911 – introduced a legendary calibre: the 9P. With its extreme fineness – only 2mm thick – this manual-winding mechanical mechanism is no less efficient, reliable and precise. The version measuring 38mm in diameter houses the manual-winding mechanic 430P calibre with 43 hours of power reserve. The 43mm model, meanwhile, is driven by the automatic 1200P calibre, and equipped with a micro-rotor providing 44 hours of autonomy.
The two Altiplano 60th anniversary Collection watches are available in a limited edition of 460 pieces per Breguet copy model. A second extra-flat calibre, an automatic one this time, was produced three years later.
